Professor Dr. Kichenamurty is well-known for his Tamil to French translations. He is former Head of the Department of French, Pondicherry University. He was awarded the French Government's Honour of Chevalier in 2005.
His most recent venture is the French translation of the first Tamil novel of Arvind Appadurai, 'Thiru-Chithra-Sadhir.' This was released by Palam Publications at Pudhuvai Thamizh Sangam on 26th December 2010.
In his speech, he highlighted
'Ecole Supérieure d'interprêtes et de traducteurs (ESIT)' view on translation according to which the translation process consists of three stages:
1. Comprehension(Compréhension)
2. Deverbalization(Déverbalisation)
3. Reexpression(Réexpression).
This is to underline the idea that the translator is not always bound to stick to the word-to-word translation.
